About WSO
Westerville Special Olympics (WSO) offers year-round athletic programs for people with developmental disabilities. Our program includes team basketball, basketball skills, bowling, soccer, swimming, tennis, track & field and volleyball. WSO serves those living in the Westerville area in both Franklin and Delaware Counties.
What’s up with WSO…February 4th...LOTS!
Silent Auction & Dinner
In just a few short weeks the largest portion of the WSO fundraising program is going to take place with a dinner and silent auction being sponsored by the Westerville North Girls Lacrosse team. As you already know, they have chosen us as this year’s charity program and have set a goal of $15, 000 to be donated to our organization. On February 27 at the Medallion Country Club, guests will be served a sumptuous dinner, be entertained by NBC 4‘s Mindy Drayer and then be given the opportunity to bid on wonderful gifts such as flying lessons, senior portrait packages, Columbus Zoo passes and memorabilia, even a one week stay at a house in Hilton Head. All for the low price of $25 per person. We know this can be expensive, but the point is for us to get other people involved. Talk to your neighbors, your extended family, most importantly, your place of employment and see what they can do. The lacrosse team needs our help and is hoping that we can provide 100 people or more to participate in the evening’s festivities.
If you have an interest in participating, have a gift for donation or want more information there are 3 ways to do it:
1) go to www.wnladylax web page, hit the “Play-It-Forward” tab and scroll down for information
2) contact Coach Sean at smoore004@att.net or call 614-214-4680
3) contact Coach Rich from the lacrosse team at richardacase@hotmail.com
Any of these methods will help you help us to continue our growth as an organization and most importantly provide more opportunities for the well-being of our athletes.

Track Athletes
I hope you are all looking forward to spring and another exciting season of track and field. I along with my son Coach Mike am pleased to be taking over the program for Coach Lisa this year. We have a lot of new changes and things going on for the upcoming season that I wanted to make you and parents/caregivers aware of. First, we will be moving our day and location for practices to avoid conflicts and better allow athletes to compete in other spring sports. Our new location will be Westerville Central High School and we will be practicing on Wednesday evenings at the same times – 6:00 to 7:30. Directions and further details will be coming soon. Second, due to having to turn in times earlier this year for the Dennison meet we will be starting practices on March 17th. But fear not. We will not have to brave the weather for our first two practices (March 17th & March 24th) as we have been given the use of the Otterbein indoor track to start our season. Third and most exciting piece of news is that we will be hosting our first ever track meet here in Westerville. The event – The Westerville Warm-Up Invitational will be the weekend before the State Meet on June 19th. Worthington and Delaware will be participating with us in this 3 way meet. We will need lots of help from parents, family, friends and athletes to pull this off and make it a successful event. So stay tuned for more information on that as well.
Finally, for our first practice on March 17th at Otterbein, it will be required that a parent, guardian or caregiver be with their athlete for a brief 30 minute meeting at the start of practice. Event selection, rules & regulations and health forms will be discussed as well as covering the procedures for the season.
Please contact me with any questions you may have for your athlete or plans for the upcoming season. I look forward to seeing all of you on March 17th (St. Patty’s Day) at Otterbein! Coach Dan
Volleyball will start on Thursday, March 4th, 6:30-8, at Walnut Springs Middle School, 888 East Walnut Street, Westerville, 43081. Practices are held on Monday and Thursday, 6:30-8:00pm. We will compete in 3 or 4 tournaments during May and June; including States, held at The Ohio State University. Lead by Coach Kathy Ullom!
Bowl-a-thon, sponsored by WNHS Girls Lacrosse Club, was an amazing success and a lot of FUN! Thanks to all our friends and families that came out and supported WSO! And the OSCAR goes to….Sean Moore…THANKS for a grand Slideshow presentation! Special thanks go out to the parents, coaches and players from Westerville Ice Girl's Softball who went above and beyond in their generous donations to help us kick off our fundraising event. Anyone who is still collecting on their sponsorships from the bowl-a-thon, please get your money in to Coach Sean so that it can be turned in to the girl's lacrosse team. We need to have everything turned in by Monday, January 31st.
