Basketball Team
We're in the process of developing team basketball skills - shooting, dribbling, rules, free throws, time periods, etc. While we haven't achieved the critical mass to send a team to the state finals, we do have weekly practices and practice games.
The season runs from November through March.
Note from Coach Sean...
Welcome to fall and the start of the WSO basketball season. Looks like it's gonna be another great year for us and I hope you're all as excited as I am. We've run into a snag with our practice facility and will now be over at Annehurst Elementary, 925 W Main St, Westerville 43081. Our first practices will be on Tues November 17 and 24 from 7-9 and then starting the 30th we'll switch to Mondays and gym time will be 6:30-8:30. I know it's a little confusing to start, but things will get better as our schedule progresses. I've already been in touch with some of the other organizations and we currently have 3 teams interested in playing us. There's one in Dec and two in Jan, but I don't have the dates nailed down yet. I'm hoping to pull another 2-3 games so we can have a full season and then finish off again with a kids vs parents game.
Couple of notes for the start of the season: First and foremost, make sure your athlete is on time and dressed properly. As many of you know, I emphasize conditioning so plan on a lot of running and stretching for the first couple of practices. If you're not dressed properly, you can't move comfortably. That means, shorts, tennis shoes and undergarments with enough support to keep things in place. If your athlete is like Erin, she's been doing a lot of sitting on her butt this fall and is out of shape. I want our kids to be able to run up and down the court and to be participants, not observers.
Secondly, hydration is key to a good workout, so please bring a water bottle of some kind.
Lastly, we'll go over some new rules and expectations in the first 15 to 30 minutes, so please don't just drop your athlete off and run.
I'm looking forward to this season. For most of us, this is our 3rd year of playing together, plus we've got some new athletes coming in who have a lot of talent so this could be a pretty spectacular team.
